The DCP Beat, with Luke

In this installment, I have a chat with American Idol contestant and Soul sensation, Danny Gokey.

Luke: In your music, what would you say is your main source of inspiration?

DG: I don’t want to come off cliché, but people inspire me. Everyday life inspires me. Music comes from life situations.

Luke: In the past couple of years, there’s been resurgence in interest and popularity in Country
Music. Do you see that trend continuing?

DG: If they remain open. Music always evolves, so it has to stay current. Our parent’s music wouldn’t work today, you know? Country and pop need to keep evolving if they want to stay relevant.

Luke: How does the pressure of being on American Idol compare with the pressures of your career now?

DG: Well, back then I didn’t know anything about performing. It was really an incredible learning experience. The real challenge now is becoming successful after American Idol. Staying relevant is where the new challenge is.

Luke: What would your ultimate musical collaboration be?

Danny pensively bites into a pear while he ponders this question.

DG: I have three: Brian McKnight, Marc Anthony, and Gary LeVox of Rascal Flatts.

Luke: Danny, I think that incredible quartet is just what the world needs.

Danny laughs, and finishes his pear.
