
On Sunday, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre headlined at Coachella, with a “guest appearance” by a lifelike rapping hologram of Tupac Shakur, who has been deceased since 1996. The hologram performed “Hail Mary” solo, and was then joined on stage by Snoop in “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted.” Aside from rapping, Tupac’s hologram interacted with fellow performer Snoop Dogg, and also acknowledged the audience by holding its mic up at one point, before “teleporting” away in a flash of light at the end of the performance.
Rolling Stone reports that the hologram, created over the course of four months by AV Concepts and Digital Domain at the behest of Dr. Dre, cost between $100,000 and $400,000. Click the link below to watch the video of the performance now:
