AMAs winner Kanye West premiered his short film Cruel Summer on Wednesday night at the Cannes Film Festival in France. Cruel Summer, which West wrote, directed and produced, is a fusion of short film and art installation. The film was shown on a pop-up pyramid, consisting of seven large screens that surrounded viewers to create a daring and immersive visual experience.
In his speech for the film, Kanye recalled the struggle to complete Cruel Summer while still shooting scenes on location in Qatar merely four weeks ago. The Cruel Summer cast includes comedian Aziz Ansari and rapper Kid Cudi, as well as Lebanese actress Razane Jammal. Kanye also appears in the film in a minor acting role.
The film will be available to the public for two days of post-premiere screening at the festival. Cruel Summer also features original music, including some from various G.O.O.D. artists.
